Business Media Georgia - Business and economy centered news platform founded by Giorgi Isakadze that provides local and international trade data for various currencies. Also contains a currency conversion calculator. Coverage in Georgian and English. 

Civil.ge - Media source that provides daily political updates and founded in 2001 by the UN Association of Georgia, which still supports and hosts it today. According to its website, it is also supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). Coverage in Georgian, English, and Russian. 

Eurasianet - Independent news organization founded in 1999 by the Open Society Institute that provides news, information, and analysis focused on countries in Central Asia and the Caucasus. Eurasianet is now hosted by Columbia University’s Harriman Institute and is supported by a variety of international foundations. Coverage in English and Russian.  

InterPressNews - News portal founded in 1999 and updated daily that includes multimedia updates, interviews, and public opinion surveys. InterPressNews has been a part of Palitra Media since 2005. Coverage in Georgian, English, and Russian. 

Liberali.ge - Online platform founded in 2009, featuring comprehensive reports, analytical and investigative articles, and commentary on on-going news. Liberali also features reports on narrowly-covered topics, such as education, health, justice, human rights, economic and business environment, urban planning, and regional development. Liberali was founded with the financial support of the Open Society Georgia Foundation (OSGF). Coverage in Georgian. 

Marketer.ge - News agency founded in 2011 that focuses on business, marketing, technology, and the creative industry. Marketer.ge aims to serve as an aid for businesses and their executives in solving strategic problems. The portal started a “Spotlight” series in 2013. Coverage in Georgian. 

Media Checker -  Media criticism platform founded in 2015 by the Georgian Charter of Journalistic Ethics that provides analysis of TV, print, and online media products. The website also features blogs by independent contributors. Intended for journalists, journalism students, and others interested in the subject matter. The platform is supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). Coverage in Georgian and English. 

Netgazeti - News website founded in 2010 that reports on politics, business, technology, culture, and entertainment. The website also features blogs and opinion pieces. In 2013, Netgazeti won the EU Journalism Prize in the nomination for “the most informative online newspaper.” Coverage in Georgian. 

OC Media – User-funded independent media company covering Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the North Caucasus. Provides daily coverage in the form of short-form bulletins, longer form investigations and analysis, opinion, and arts/culture coverage.

Radio Tavisupleba - Georgian branch of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, a private international broadcasting company funded by the United States through the Agency for Global Media. The media platform is available in 20 countries and 28 languages; it started publishing both local and international news in Georgian in 1953. The platform aims to raise awareness on civic action and responsibility by showcasing democratic values. Coverage in Georgian.



Online Media


Abkhaz World – Online publication focusing on Abkhazia, local issues, and broader issues for the Abkhaz diaspora. The page publishes in English and maintains an active X account.  

Apsnypress – The de-facto state press agency for the unrecognized state of Abkhazia, covering local issues and Abkhaz relations with Moscow and Tbilisi. The agency is run by Abkhazia’s local ministry of communications. Publications are released in Russian and Abkhaz. 

Ambebi.ge - Multi-media news portal founded in 2009 that features articles, publications, interviews, and photo, video, and audio materials. The website covers both Georgia-specific and world news. Coverage in Georgian and Russian. 

BNE IntelliNews (Georgia page) - Berlin-based independent news outlet covering Eastern Europe, Eurasia, and the Middle East. Coverage typically skews toward business-coverage but also features political reporting and analysis.

Caucasus Business Week -  Online news portal founded in 2011 and updated daily, which focuses on business and economics. The site aims to deliver useful information to Tbilisi-based business circles and contribute to the formation of valuable competition on the Georgian market. Coverage in English.

CivicIdea – Opposition think tank based in Tbilisi chaired by former Defense Minister of Georgia Tinatin Khidasheli. CivicIdea publishes long-form reports and analysis as well as shorter-form news updates, typically from a pro-Western pro-democracy perspective. 

Commersant.ge - Daily news website founded in 2008 that provides both country and global updates. The website has a business and finance focus and features its own radio station - Radio Commersant. Coverage in Georgian, English, and Russian. 

Droa.ge - News portal dedicated to self government. The website aims to raise awareness on self governance practices and reforms by featuring expert articles. The website is affiliated with the Open Society Georgia Foundation (OSGF). Coverage in Georgian. 

Eastern Neighborhood Bulletin (Substack) – Substack page covering Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. Page include weekly newsletters, regular analytic writing, and occasional longform reports and interviews.  

Entrepreneur Sakartvelo -  Business publication founded in 2018 that aims to serve as a guide for starting a personal business, while overcoming the challenges of business ownership. The website also features an original podcast. Coverage in Georgian and English. 

Eurasia Daily Monitor - Publication launched in 2004 by the Jamestown Foundation, a Washington D.C. based institute for research and analysis. The Eurasia Daily Monitor is an analytical publication that surveys recent developments in Eurasia, providing overview and analysis of events. Coverage in English. 

Forbes Georgia - Business publication founded in 2011 by Forbes, which aims to showcase success stories of Georgian entrepreneurs and portray the country’s business and economic achievements. The print version of the magazine has been published monthly in Georgian since December 2011. Website coverage in Georgian. 

Ganatleba (Substack) - Substack page covering higher education and the politicization of education in Georgia. Run by long-time Georgia-analyst Hans Gutbrod. 

Georgian Journal - News platform founded in 2007 in Tbilisi, Georgia and provided by the Palitra Media House - the largest independent media company in the country. Coverage in English.

Georgian News Agency - General news reporting agency founded in 2005 that provides updates and coverage for Georgia. It is currently owned by GHN Media Group. Coverage in Georgian, English, and Russian. 

Georgia Today - Newspaper published weekly that was rebranded and divided in November 2015 into two bi-weekly editions -- a Friday Georgia Today newspaper covering politics, society, and culture, and a Tuesday business edition focused on business, economics and law. Georgia Today was founded in 2000 and is owned by Giorgi Sharashidze, Ivane Merabishvili, and David John Maple. Coverage in English. 

Heinrich Böll Foundation – Tbilisi Office, South Caucasus Region - The Caucasus oriented branch of the Heinrich Böll Foundation network of think tanks. Covering Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, the Tbilisi office focuses on politics, human rights, environmental and climate issues, and energy. An organization affiliated with the German Green Party, it often takes a climate-focuses perspective on energy.

iPress.ge - Platform founded in 2014 that unites four news websites:  ipress.ge, ibusiness.ge, imtavroba.ge, and regions.ge. iPress.ge focuses on socio-political and economic issues and was launched in 2014. Coverage in Georgian. 

JAM News - Independent media outlet covering Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia. Focuses on day-to-day news developments, local news, politics, and strong focus on diverse opinion writing. Publishing in English, Armenia, Azerbaijani, Georgian, and Russian. 

Live Press (website currently inactive) - Multimedia platform founded in 2011 that features daily news, blogs, as well as photo and video materials. Live Press is reportedly part of the Joomla-based universal CMS system, which was developed through the USAID-funded Media for Transparent and Accountable Governance (MTAG) program, and implemented by IREX. Coverage in Georgian, Russian, and Abkhaz. 

Lossi36 (Caucasus page) - Volunteer run platform for writing and analysis on Eastern Europe and Eurasia, specializing in political and cultural analysis. Lossi36 publishes in English and is geared toward early-career specialists and students. 

New Posts - News agency founded in 2012 that provides daily news from seven different regions in Georgia. Coverage in Georgian, English, and Russian. 

News.ge - Multimedia portal featuring both local and world news. News.ge covers the topics of politics, business, culture, technology, health, sport, and law. Users are encouraged to interact with the website by leaving comments across the portal and submitting ideas for future blogs. Coverage in Georgian. 

On.ge - Multi-purpose media platform, designed as both an informative daily news platform. Journalist Gela Bochikashvili is its editor-in-chief; the portal is owned by Omedia and Formula Creative. Coverage in Georgian. 

openDemocracy -  United Kingdom-based political website founded in 2001 that provides reporting and analysis of events throughout the world, including occasionally Central Asia and the Caucuses. “openDemocracy” is owned by the nonprofit openDemocracy Foundation for the Advancement of Global Education. openDemocracy was founded by Anthony Barnett, David Hayes, Susan Richards, and Paul Hilder. Coverage in English.

Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (Georgia page) (OCCRP) - Amsterdam based non-profit investigative reporting organization focused on corruption issues. OCCRP’s primary countries of interest include Venezuela, Russia, and Ukraine, but also often publishes on Georgia. 

Prime Time - Daily news portal founded in 2009 that features live broadcasts, online surveys, exclusive interviews, investigative articles, political insights, scandals, and entertainment updates. Coverage in Georgian. 

Publika - Socio-political online publication founded in 2019 that features daily news, blogs, photo, video, and audio materials, as well as a page dedicated entirely to quotes. Launched by a group of Georgian journalists. Coverage in Georgian. 

State Information Agency “RES” - South Ossetian administration's official information agency headquarter in Tskitishvili, publishing in English, Russian, and Ossetian. 

Tabula - Daily news portal founded in 2010, which aims to promote pro-Western ideals, political pluralism, and free market development. Tabula’s digital portal was reportedly launched with the financial support of “right-wing, libertarian entrepreneurs.” Tabula is affiliated with the political party “European Georgia”. Coverage in Georgian. 

The Diplomat - International online news magazine founded in 2001 covering politics, society, and culture in Asia. The Diplomat frequently runs articles on Central Asia and is based in Washington, D.C. The Diplomat was founded by Minh Bui Jones, David Llewellyn-Smith, and Sung Lee.  Coverage in English. 

The Georgian Times - The first English-language newspaper established in Georgia, founded in 1993, and owned by Georgian Times Media Holding. The Georgian Times offers both a weekly newspaper and an online news portal. Print newspaper copies can be retrieved on the website in pdf form. Coverage in Georgian, English, and Russian.  

Television


Georgians retrieve a lot of their news from TV news outlets and their respective social media pages, where stories are offered in both video and written format. Some key TV channels and their websites are:

1TV -  Television channel founded in 1956, but owned and operated by Georgian Public Broadcasting that reportedly reaches 85% of the Georgian population. Coverage in Georgian, English, Russian, Armenian, and Azerbaijani. 

Ajara TV -  Independent TV channel that also operates a radio station founded in 1987, funded by Georgian taxpayers. The primary focus is on Batumi and Adjara, a region in Western Georgia. Coverage only in Georgian. 

Formula TV -  Private news broadcaster and an entertainment channel founded in 2019 with coverage in Georgian. 

Imedi -  TV channel founded in 2001 by the Georgian Media Production Group, which is accessible across the country. Coverage only in Georgian. 

Mtavari Arkhi - Privately-held broadcasting network founded in 2019 mainly composed of former Rustavi 2 producers and journalists. Coverage only in Georgian.

Rustavi 2 -  Privately-held broadcasting network founded in 1994 that reportedly reaches 85% of the Georgian population. Coverage in both Georgian and English.

TV Pirveli -  News broadcaster founded in 2015 that originally started as a sports channel. The channel is owned by Vakhtang Tsereteli. Coverage only in Georgian.
